The new Mac exhaust laying next to the "hacked" stock
exhaust system. Take careful note of the orientation of the hanger!
It will have to be placed onto the new muffler system in the exact
same orientation. |
 |
| 12.
Take the rubber muffler hanger and transfer it to
the new Mac exhaust system. Notice the orientation of the hanger.
On the stock muffler, the welded metal hanger bends out, on the
Mac system it bends in. Use dish soap to slide the rubber hanger
on easy. |
 |
| 13.
Next, remove the rubber hanger from the stock exhaust
tips and transfer them over to the new Mac system. Also, pay close
attention of the hanger's orientation. You can lay the old and the
new pipe side-by-side to make sure you transfer the hanger assembly
correctly. The welded metal hanger bends in the same direction on
both the stock and Mac systems. Again, use dish soap to ease removal
/ installation. |
 |
| 14.
Now you are ready to put on the new system! The kit
comes with all flanges in place. Maneuver the bent pipe over the
rear axle, careful not to pull out the brake line or any other hoses
/ cables. After you've positioned the pipe take the included stud
bolts and screw them into the flange. This pic shows the finished
task. Now just let the bent pipe rest on the rear axle, you are
now going to bolt it to the h-pipe. |
 |
| 15.
Now place the new system onto the h-pipe bolts but
DON'T TIGHTEN THE H-PIPE NUTS. WE WILL TIGHTEN THE WHOLE SYSTEM
AFTER EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE. This pic shows us using a wrench,
but we are not putting any torque on the wrench! Go to the rear
and re-attach the mid muffler hanger to the stang using the two
10mm bolts. You SHOULD fully tighten the two mid muffler hanger
bolts at this time. |
 |
| 16.
After you've attached the mid muffler hanger the
front part of the system should be hanging. Now get the chrome tips
and attach them. DON'T TIGHTEN THE NUTS! Keep them loose. Now go
to the very rear of the stang and re-attach the rear most muffler
hanger with the 1 bolt that is used to hold it in place. You SHOULD
fully tighten the rear muffler hanger assembly bolt at this time. |
 |
| 17.
The new system should now be completely installed
but still loose. Now we will start to tighten the system starting
at the h-pipe. Tighten both nuts evenly, but not too tight, we still
want to be able to move the system around a bit if we need to. |
 |
| 18.
As you can see, we need to make room for the upper
rear control arm travel, rubber brake line and fuel lines. Make
sure the pipes clear ALL of these obstacles. After you've checked
for clearances, hold the pipes in place while you put the "final"
tighten on the h-pipe bolts. You can have your buddy hold the pipes
while you tighten the h-pipe bolts. Go to the rear of the stang
and tighten up the bolts that hold the chrome tips in place. Again
check for pipe & flange clearance, then fully tighten the bolts. |
 |
| 19.
Now you can start on the other side. |
 |
| 20.
Check this out! Totally cool install and you did
it yourself! These mufflers ride much higher than the stock mufflers.
Even higher than the chassis itself ! There is also more room for
a larger driveshaft. Give yourself one tank of gas to break-in the
new system and burn off the "new muffler" smell that comes with
all new muffler systems. Your 4.6L stang will now sound like a 5.8L
! |
