Carl S's 01 Saleen Cobra S281 Update

I first posted my 01 Saleen Cobra pictures shortly after I purchased the car in 2001. . I thought that it was time to up-date all that has happened to the Saleen over the 5 ½ years since I’ve owned it, and give some additional information I did not include in the original posting.

The Cobra arrived in Irvine, California on March 26 & I trailered it home from Bob Sight Ford, Kansas City on April 26, 2001.

At the end of the production year Saleen will announced their production figures. There were 6, 2001 Saleen Cobra convertibles built. My Cobra convertible was the first of the 6. There were 2 silver, 1 white, 1 black and 2 mineral greys built. It was the 526th Saleen built during their total year 2001 production, hence it carries the number “526” on the driver’s side front bumper
and on other plaques on the Cobra.

There has been $6,000 of appearance & performance upgrades added to the car. The most beneficial was the 4:10 gears that replaced the stock gears. Close behind that is the braking system up-graded to drilled & slotted rotors.

I’ve driven the Saleen 3-12 times each year so it has only have 4,500 miles on it. I was driving it the morning of 9/11 and I remember exactly where I was when the news came on the radio. While on the road course at Mid-America Motor Plex, at 120 mph on the straight-away, the odometer turned over 3,000 miles. There are other great rides I remember with special people, and am sure, many more to come.
